Billed as the king of pop whose death sent shockwaves around the world, Michael Jackson was on the verge of making a comeback in London for a series of This is It concerts.
Overnight, griefing fans all over the world mourning his death just couldn’t have enough of his music and his videos. The sales of his albums started moving at an incredible pace.
The singer’s albums occupied nine of the top 10 spots on the Top Pop Catalogue Album chart released by Billboard recently.
Jackson’s album Number Ones was No.1 on sales of 108,000 copies during the week that ended on June 28, followed by The Essential Michael Jackson and Thriller on sales of 102,000 and 101,000 respectively.
Billboard said Jackson’s solo albums sold 415,000 copies a week after his death, compared to sales of just 10,000 in the week that ended June 21.
The fantastic album sales is understandable, especially for an artiste of Jackson’s stature. He was and will probably remain the biggest pop star of all time.
